Meet Marlon
From Bed-Stuy to Albany — Rooted in Community, Ready to Lead
Marlon Rice is a father of three and grandfather of two, a committed public servant, and lifelong resident of central Brooklyn.

Building Community Through Education
Marlon started the EGOS Afterschool Program at Brighter Choices Community School in 2008, and for 15 years wrote and executed curriculum as a Department of Education vendor. He is also the creator and lead instructor of two city education initiatives: First Voice, a writing workshop that introduces elementary school students to creative expression; and the Magnolia Initiative, a curriculum that educates children about community gardening and urban horticulture.

The oldest of three children, Marlon was raised by his mother, a paralegal, and his stepfather, a 25-year veteran of the New York Police Department. His maternal grandmother, Mary Morgan, worked on campaigns for many of central Brooklyn's local elected officials and dedicated community leaders like the Rev. Gardner C. Taylor, Hon. Al Vann, and Jitu Weusi.
After graduating from Brooklyn Technical High School, Marlon enrolled at Morgan State University. A child of the hip hop generation, Marlon spent his early adult years contributing to the culture as an emcee and model, in marketing and promotions, and producing events.
An in-demand public speaker, Marlon is a published author and contributing writer for numerous online publications. His byline has appeared in GQ, Amsterdam News, XXL and The Source.'
In addition to his educational and creative endeavors, Marlon is the current director of event services for the Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation, where he brings his passion for community engagement to life through impactful programming. He is also the founder of Good People NYC, an event production company that thrives at the intersection of culture, community and connection.
No stranger to running, Marlon has completed three marathons.
